New Job

OK, now that the contract is signed I don’t think I can bring down the wrath of any deity with my boastful nature (c.f. the New England Patriots). In a couple of weeks I’ll be working for SpringSource, chief committers of the Spring Framework for Java (and .NET, I learned with some surprise).

The team seem really nice, as well as being wicked smart (end Boston accent). The work environment looks good, there’s a gym on site so I’ll be able to shower once I can cycle-commute again (16 miles each way, so may take a while to work up to it), and the job itself is about as cool as QA can get (take that for what it’s worth!). In the meantime I have some time to finish off the bathroom renovation, then move on to a kitchen renovation. Lucky me.

That’s great – congratulations! You think the the haircut had anything to do with it? LOL.

Andy – Not just something to do with it – I’m sure it was the determining factor.

Nik – Half way between Southampton (where they’re based) and Portsmouth on the south coast of England.

Congratulations! I’m sure that long break between jobs was tough. I’m lost on the haircut comments – did it ever actually get longer than 1/4 inch?

Way longer – I hadn’t cut it for about a year or so :)

Sounds great, wicked smart people rock!

16 miles is over my theoretical limit. I always say I would like to live 8-12 miles from work, although sometimes I’m none too happy riding the 5 I have now.

Yeah, my preference would be for less, but the job is good enough to warrant it, and cycling both ways should only take as long as driving both ways plus an hour’s bike ride, so I don’t lose anything in time. And there will be enough days when I have to ride to get back for family commitments that it should be too onerous :)
