Small Things

I’m currently working through all the little things that, perhaps surprisingly, bring me up short now that I’m in England. For example, my uncle is a keen gardener who collects rainwater in a variety of containers to help keep his garden green. Every time I see one of these containers, with no lid, just sitting there, uncovered, I get the urge to tip it over so that the mosquitos won’t breed. And on a related note we can open windows and doors here without needing any screens, and the worst that happens is a passing bee bumbling in.

Le Change

The Tour de France starts on Saturday, which is a highlight of the summer for me (the equivalent for the ball and chain is Wimbledon, which began on Monday). It’s odd to think that I’ll start the Tour (as a spectator that is) in Minnesota, watch the middle bit in New York, and finish it living in the UK.

Bugger

While selling the house we had stored some boxes in our neighbour’s basement (to keep things tidy). Turns out that one box, of framed pictures, didn’t make it into the container. It has been officially described as “Bigger then you will like!”

Back to what passes for substantive blogging tomorrow.

Balance

This weekend we discovered that a pipe buried inside the kitchen wall has developed a leak, just 5 days before we officially hand over the house. On the upside, I had to slow down while cycling in to work this morning so that I didn’t disturb the deer crossing the path in front of me.
